A little bit of a different presentation this time, I'm not in my usual spot for recording, and life has thrown me for a few loops lately - but I really did want to get this information out there and continue the series. So please listen and find out how it's going to continue, and what I suggest you do for this episode's assignment:

Speaking of, here are the calculators I mentioned

Calorie Calculator - a fairly simple calculator to get you started

BMR and TDEE - this one is the most complex, but it factors in a few things and figures out your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) - which is just how much you need to just maintain your weight, and Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE) - how much you burn in a day.

I'll be back to this series when I can - but until then...

You got this ❤️

Another great episode, Eve. One diet realization that remains salient in memory today is the average added sugar limit for men, 37.5g per day (25g for women). A decade ago I was a huge fan of DQ blizzards, even joining the fan club for BOGO coupons, and I usually got the large size. Looking up the nutrition info for a large cookie dough blizzard today is a refresher in how gobsmacked I was years ago. It contains 142g of sugar, 1340 cals, and surprisingly, 750mg sodium. Stacked against the sugar limit it's almost 4 days worth in one dessert! Knowledge was definitely power, and this is why you are doing good work sifting through all the confusing, contradictory information that's out there, to bring to your listeners only the essentials of what they need to accomplish their weight loss goals. Thank you!

Thank you C! It is shocking, isn't it! I'm glad you enjoyed this one, shocks to the system notwithstanding :P

OMG OMG OMG, a shoutout??? Hi Eve!!!!!

I really like the context and the way you explain this! For a long time, I sort of thought you could be really active and then eat whatever you wanted but I'm slowly starting to realize that I'm really overestimating how many calories I'm burning and really underestimating how many calories I'm eating! And I never thought about the threshold for maintaining weight being such a moving target (and such a small target for women!) I'm really curious about how the BMR/TDEE numbers are going to crunch out and if they match up with my lifestyle!

P.S. Sound quality was fine! I couldn't even tell you weren't recording in the studio

P.P.S. No need to apologize for putting this series on the backburner! You are creating so much new, original content, especially in new areas and topics. It is so much hard work but I really do appreciate your insight and your positivity and your slow and steady reassurance that I got this! :P

I remember doing something similar for P.E one time. I catalogued what I ate, the calories consumed and calories burned. I found out I didn't ate much, but I didn't do much either. After becoming more active, my appetite would increase, but not for a lot of junk food. It also did good for my confidence and self-esteem 😊

I'm glad to hear it - I know I feel a bit better about things when I feel more 'in control' of what I eat. I do struggle with it, of course, like most people, but I definitely agree with the idea of 'progress, not perfection' :)
